Sulfur hexafluoride circuit breaker is a high-voltage switchgear widely used in power systems. It uses sulfur hexafluoride gas as arc extinguishing and insulating medium, has excellent arc extinguishing performance and electrical insulation strength, and is widely used in medium and high voltage 35KV~550KV and ultra-high voltage 800KV outdoor power systems.
Let's talk about its application first. It can be used for generator set outlet switching and protection in power plants, protect high-voltage transmission lines and transformers in substations, and protect large and high-voltage motors in industrial power systems.
Its structure includes multiple parts. Among them are the circuit breaker body, such as moving and static contacts, arc extinguishing chambers, conductive rods, etc. There are also operating mechanisms, such as spring operating mechanisms and hydraulic operating mechanisms, which are commonly used to drive the contacts to open and close. The gas insulation system covers the filling, discharge and recovery devices of SF6 gas. The control and protection system can realize remote control and fault protection.
In terms of working principle, there are several steps of closing and opening and arc extinguishing. When closing the circuit breaker, the operating mechanism drives the moving contact to move toward the static contact to form a path. When opening the circuit breaker, the moving contact is driven to separate from the static contact to generate an arc. During the arc extinguishing process, SF6 gas decomposes under the action of the high-temperature arc, and a large number of charged particles generated collide with the neutral particles of the arc, reducing its ionization degree and accelerating the arc extinguishing.
The characteristics are also very significant. The arc extinguishing capacity of SF6 gas is about 100 times that of air, and the insulation strength is about 2.5 times that of air. This allows the circuit breaker to achieve high voltage and high current breaking capacity in a small volume. The reasonable design of the contacts and arc extinguishing chambers reduces the maintenance workload and has a long service life.
In short, with its excellent performance and wide application range, outdoor sulfur hexafluoride circuit breakers occupy an important position in modern power systems. In the future, it is expected to have greater development space in terms of intelligence and environmental protection, and become one of the indispensable key equipment. Outdoor sulfur hexafluoride circuit breakers have a variety of models and specifications (such as mid-mounted, tank-type, etc.). For details, please check our product details page.
